In Fishtail, the Cowboy Bar And Supper Club 406-328-4288, serves a great lunch and wonderful dinner entrées. During tourist season, they are open 7 days a week.  Last serving time is usually around 8:30 at night.

Also in Fishtail, the Fishtail General Store 406-328-4260 has an incredible bakery and deli. Try their handcrafted baked goods including pies, cookies and muffins along with their sandwiches, burritos and salads. This country store offers most everything you may need and is a great place to pick up beverages, soft drinks, beer and wine. They are open daily 5 am to 8 pm and the deli closes at 7 pm.
The Grizzly Bar 406-328-6789 in Roscoe Montana On HWY MT 78 is about 18 miles away. They provide an authentic western dining experience and are known for their great steaks. They are open daily 11:30 am to 9 pm.  It was a fur trapping station in the early part of the 1800s

For breakfast; make sure to stop in Absarokee and check out the Rosebud Café 406-328-6969. They serve incredible home-made American and Mexican food.  Their specialty is the MT Slammer sandwich for lunch and chicken fried steak for dinner. It is owned and operated by Roger and Sylvia, who have many years’ experience of feeding people.  They are open from 7am to 3 pm on Friday through Tuesday and closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
If you are in the mood for bar-food,  Carter’s Camp 406-328-6186 is just down the road 2 miles going either on the Nye Cemetery Road, or going back out to the highway, turning left and going about 3 miles.

Also in Nye,  the Nye Trading Post 406-328-6262 stocks an incredible amount of items in a small space. They sell soft drinks, bread, milk, eggs and lunch meats.  The Trading Post is a fixture in the valley.  They are open daily 7 am to 7 pm during the summer. Pick up a bag of their popcorn, which is made like movie house popcorn and tastes irresistibly good!

For All-Round good food; try Taste of Country in downtown Absarokee. It’s a new restaurant and the menu is incredibly varied and everything is homemade (not out of the bag). Even hand-breaded Chicken Fried Steak with brown gravy! Add Waffle fries (hard to come by these days) and you have a wonderful meal. They also have access to a full bar to make your dinner that much more enjoyable. Owner Robin Borland can usually be found performing all the kitchen duties and double-duty as waitress.


Nye Trading Post – 406-328-6262 Convenience Store; Gas Pumps. Sells Fish bait and a small camping section. Pretty much a little bit of everything. They also pride themselves in having the lowest beer prices in Stillwater County. This is the closest stop for Gas.

Fishtail General Store –406-328-4260 This is the ultimate small town store that you used to hear about. It is charming; wonderful, and has most everything you need, including fresh baked pies.  Open Monday through Sunday 5 am – 8 pm, Mountain Time. Gas available
